The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the office of auxiliary bishop of the metropolitan archdiocese of Łódź, Poland, presented by Bishop Ireneusz Józef Pękalski.

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the metropolitan archdiocese of Kansas City in Kansas, United States of America, presented by Archbishop Joseph F. Naumann.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop William Shawn McKnight, until now bishop of Jefferson City, United States of America, as metropolitan archbishop of Kansas City in Kansas, United States of America.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect William Shawn McKnight was born on 26 July 1968 in Wichita, Kansas, in the diocese of the same name. He attended the University of Dallas, obtaining a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry. He entered the seminary and carried out his ecclesiastical studies at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio, and was subsequently awarded a doctorate in sacramental theology from the Pontifical Athenaeum of Saint Anselm in Rome.

He was appointed a priest on 28 May 1994 for the diocese of Wichita.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Blessed Sacrament in Wichita (1994-1997), parish administrator of Saint Patrick in Chanute (1999), chaplain and adjunct professor at Newman University in Wichita (2000-2001), parish priest of Saint Mark the Evangelist in Colwich (2000-2003), diocesan director of divine worship, diocesan consultor and member of the Presbyteral Council (2000-2005), faculty member and formator at the Pontifical College Josephinum in Columbus, Ohio (2003-2008), parish priest of the Blessed Sacrament in Wichita (2008-2010), executive director of the Office for the Clergy and Consecrated Life of the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (2010-2015), and parish priest of the Church of the Magdalen in Wichita (2015-2018).

He was appointed bishop of Jefferson City on 21 November 2017, and received episcopal consecration the following 6 February.

 

Appointment of metropolitan archbishop of Gagnoa, Cote d’Ivoire

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Jean-Jacques Koffi Oi Koffi, until now bishop of San-Pedro-en-Côte d’Ivoire and apostolic administrator of the same archdiocese, as metropolitan archbishop of the archdiocese of Gagnoa, Cote d’Ivoire.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Jean-Jacques Koffi Oi Koffi was born on 22 March 1962 in Bongouanou. He was ordained a priest on 4 August 1990, for the diocese of Abengourou. He was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Urbaniana University of Rome.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar and diocesan head of catechesis for children, parish priest, vicar general and spiritual assistant of the Association of Christian Families, and president of the diocesan ecclesiastical tribunal of first instance.

On 21 November 2003 he was elected bishop of Abengourou, and was consecrated on the following 21 December. On 3 January 2009 he was transferred to the diocese of San Pedro-en-Côte-d’Ivoire. Since 4 October 2023 he has been apostolic administrator of the metropolitan archdicoese of Gagnoa.

 

Appointment of bishop of Providence, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Bruce Alan Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., until now titular bishop of Croe and auxiliary of Baltimore, United States of America, as bishop of Providence, United States of America.

Bishop Bruce Alan Lewandowski, C.Ss.R., was born on 8 June 1967 in Toledo, Ohio, in the diocese of the same name. He gave his first vow as Redemptorist of the Province of Baltimiore on 10 September 1988. He attended Saint Alphonsus College in Suffield, Connecticut, and the Holy Redeemer College in Washington, carrying out his theological studies at the Washington Theological Union.

He was ordained a priest on 7 May 1994 for the Congregation of the Holy Redeemer.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Saint Cecilia in Manhattan (1994-1996) and of teh Immaculate Conception in the Bronx, New York (1996-1998), missionary at Seelos House in Vieux Fort in Saint Lucia, West Indies (1998-2000), parish priest of Saint Boniface (2000-2006) and of Visitation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania (2006-2011), and of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Baltimore, Maryland (2016-2020).

On 10 June 2020, he was appointed titular bishop of Croe and auxiliary of Baltimore, receiving episcopal consecration the following 18 August.

 

Appointment of coadjutor bishop of Oliveira, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Antônio Carlos Paiva, of the clergy of the diocese of Patos de Minas, until now parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Lagoa Formosa-MG, as coadjutor bishop of Oliveira, Brazil.

Msgr. Antônio Carlos Paiva was born on 9 May 1968 in Alto Rio Doce, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Mariana, in the State of Minas Gerais. He carried out his studies in philosophy in the Maria Imaculada Major Seminary in Araxá-MG and in theology at the Dom José André Coimbra Major Seminary in Patos de Minas-MG. He obtained a licentiate in spirituality from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 15 November 1999, and incardinated in the diocese of Patos de Minas.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of São Benedito in Patos de Minas-MG (1999-2000); parish administrator of Bom Jesus in Monte Carmelo-MG (2000-2001); rector of the Dom José André Coimbra Major Seminary (2001-2003 and 2016-2020); vicar general (2003-2004); parish priest of São Sebastião in São Gotardo-MG (2006-2011) and of São Benedito in Patos de Minas-MG (2011-2016); vicar forane, professor in the Seminary, and member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council, and other diocesan councils.

Since 2020 he has served as parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Piedade in Lagoa Formosa-MG.

 

Appointment of bishop prelate of Chuquibambilla, Peru

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Fr. Wilder Alberto Vásquez Saldaña, O.S.A., until now parish vicar of San José Obrero, as bishop prelate of the territorial prelature of Chuquibambilla, Peru.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Wilder Alberto Vásquez Saldaña, O.S.A., was born on 21 December 1974 in La Encañada, Cajamarca. He entered the Order of Saint Augustine, and carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the San Carlos y San Marcelo Major Seminary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Trujillo.

On 29 April 2006 he was ordained a priest.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San José Obrero, (2007-2008), parish priest of San Isidro de Morropón (2011-2013) and of San Agustín de la matanza (2014), superior of the Nuestra Señora de Gracia International Augustinian Novitiate in La Encantada de Villa, Chorillos, Lima, chaplain of Inmaculado Corazón de María in the parish of San Juan de la Cruz (2015-2022), and parish priest of San Agustín in La Encantada de Villa, Chorillos (2023).

Since 2024 he has been promotor of the Santísima Cruz Parish Educational Institution in Chulucanas, and parish vicar of San José Obrero. He served as counsellor of the vicariate of San Juan de Sahagún in Chulucanas for two consecutive terms.
