Appointment of military ordinary archbishop for Italy

The Holy Father has appointed Archbishop Gian Franco Saba as military ordinary archbishop for Italy, transferring him from the metropolitan archdiocese of Sassari, Italy.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop Gian Franco Saba was born in Olbia on 20 September 1968. After entering the diocesan seminary of Tempo-Ampurias and continuing his studies in the Pontifical Umbrian Regional Seminary of Assisi, he attended the Theological Institute affiliated to the Pontifical Lateran University. He transferred to the Pontifical Sardinian Regional Seminary of Cagliari, and was awarded a bachelor’s degree in theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia. He alsl obtained a doctorate in theology and patristic sciences from the Pontifical Patristic Institute “Augustinianum” in Rome. He attended the course in “Communication systems in international relations” at the Faculty of Letters of the University for Foreigners of Perugia.

He was ordained a priest on 23 October 1993, and incardinated in the diocese of Tempio-Ampurias, Sardinia.

He has held the following offices: vice rector and rector of the diocesan seminary, member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors, director of the diocesan youth council, and diocesan assistant for the young people of Catholic Action (1994-2000); director of the diocesan Institute of Religious Sciences (2001); director of the Istituto Euromediterraneo, associate lecturer in patristic theology at the Pontifical Theological Faculty of Sardinia (2004); rector of the Pontifical Sardinian Regional Seminary in Cagliari (2010-2015); and parish priest of San Antonio Abate in San Antonio di Gallura (2015-2017).

On 27 June 2017 he was appointed metropolitan archbishop of Sassari, receiving episcopal consecration the following 13 September.

 

Appointment of bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Luis Albeiro Maldonado Monsalve, of Mocoa-Sibundoy, Colombia, as bishop of Santa Rosa de Osos, Colombia.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Luis Albeiro Maldonado Monsalve was born in Fredonia, diocese of Caldas, on 20 January 1958. He carried out his priestly formation at the Medellín Major Seminary, studying philosopy and theology at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana. He obtained a licentiate in spiritual theology at the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.

He received priestly ordination on 5 July 1986, and was incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Medellín.

He has held the following offices: formator in the major seminary, parish administrator of San Simón, Apóstol in Medellín, parish priest of San Rafael in Envigado, spiritual director of the major seminary, professor and chaplain at the Universidad Pontificia Bolivariana, parish priest of Nuestra Señora de las Nieves in Medellín, parish priest of Sagrada Familia in Medellín, parish priest of Santa Ana in Sabaneta, administrator of the autonomous priestly Foundation, parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Bello, and episcopal vicar of the North Zone of the archdiocese of Medellín.

On 15 October 2015 he was appointed bishop of Mocoa-Sibundoy, receiving episcopal consecration the following 3 December.

 

Appointment of chair of the Permanent Commission for the Protection of Historical and Artistic Monuments of the Holy See

The Cardinal Secretary of State has appointed the distinguished Professor Elvira Cajano, visiting professor at the Faculty of History and Cultural Heritage of the Church of the Pontifical Gregorian University, Rome, as chair of the Permanent Commission for the Protection of Historical and Artistic Monuments of the Holy See.

Curriculum vitae

Professor Cajano was born in Parma on 29 May 1955. She was awarded a degree in architecture and a research doctorate in history, design and restoration of architecture from “La Sapienza” University of Rome. She held a managerial position at the Department of Archaeology, Fine Arts and Landscape of Umbria. She has lectured in theory of restoration and conservation at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome and is the author of numerous publications.
