Appointment of bishop of Houma-Thibodaux, U.S.A.

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. Simon Peter Engurait, of the clergy of the diocese of Houma-Thibodaux, United States of America, until now diocesan administrator of the same see, as bishop of Houma-Thibodaux.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Simon Peter Engurait was born on 28 August 1971 in Ngora, Uganda. He attended Saint Peter Minor Seminary in Soroti, and Saint Peter College in Tororo, Uganda. He was awarded a degree in political sciences and public administration from Makerere University, Uganda, and a master’s degree in business administration from the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands. After transferring to the United States, he carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, obtaining a Master of Divinity.

He was ordained a priest on 25 May 2013 for the diocese of Houma-Thibodaux.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of the Cathedral (2013-2015), Saint Genevieve (2015-2016), and Christ the Redeemer (2016-2017); parish priest of Saint Bridget (since 2017); moderator of the Curia (2016-2024); vicar general (2017-2024); and diocesan administrator (since 2024).
