Resignation and appointment of archbishop of Hobart, Australia

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the archdiocese of Hobart, Australia, presented by Bishop Julian C. Porteous.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Anthony John Ireland, until now titular bishop of Carinola and auxiliary of Melbourne, as archbishop of Hobart, Australia.

Curriculum vitae

Archbishop-elect Anthony John Ireland was born on 28 April 1957 in Melbourne. He attended Saint Aloysius School in Caulfield and subsequently De La Salle College in Malvern. After several work experiences, he entered the Corpus Christi College Seminary in Melbourne.

He was ordained a priest on 19 September 1987.

After ordination, he first held the roles of parish vicar of Grovedale (1987-1988) and of Mentone (1988-1990). He obtained a licentiate in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome (1990) and a master of arts in spiritual theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum in Rome (1992). He went on to serve as parish vicar of Sandringham (1993-1995), parish administrator of Langwarrin (1995-1996), dean of the Deanery of Peninsula (1997-1999) and parish priest of Frankston and Langwarrin (1999-2002). He was awarded a doctorate in moral theology from the Pontifical University of Saint Thomas Aquinas – Angelicum (2004), and served as dean of studies (2005-2006) and rector (2006-2009) at the Corpus Christi College Seminary in Melbourne, and parish priest of Saint Gregory the Great (2009-2021).

He has been episcopal vicar for Health, the Aged and Disability Care for the East Sector, as well as member of the College of Consultors, the Board of the Catholic Development Fund, the Catholic Capital Grants for Schools Committee and the State Government Committee for Legal and Social Issues.

He was appointed titular bishop of Carinola and auxiliary of Melbourne on 14 May 2021, receiving episcopal ordination the following 31 July.

 

Appointment of bishop of Nogales, Mexico

The Holy Father has appointed Msgr. José Luis Cerra Luna, of the clergy of the diocese of Matamoros-Reynosa, until now vicar general of the same diocese, as bishop of Nogales, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. José Luis Cerra Luna was born in Torreón, State of Coahuila, on 24 July 1963, He studied in the seminary of Matamoros and Monterrey, and was ordained a priest on 21 April 1990, and incardinated in the diocese of Matamoros-Reynosa.

He was awarded a licentiate in philosophy at the Universidad Pontificia de México and a licentiate in spiritual theology from the Pontifical Theological Faculty and Pontifical Institute of Spirituality Teresianum in Rome.

He has held the following offices: formator, bursar and spiritual director of the diocesan seminary of Matamoros; parish priest of various communities; member of the diocesan Council for Economic Affairs; and member of the College of Consultors, the Presbyteral Council and the Pastoral Council.

He is currently vicar general and moderator of the Commission for the Protection of Minors.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Bogotá, Colombia

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Germán Humberto Barbosa Mora, of the clergy of the diocese of Engativá, until now episcopal vicar of the vicariate of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Suba and parish priest of Madre de la Divina Gracia in Suba, assigning him the titular see of Uzali.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Germán Humberto Barbosa Mora was born in Bogotá on 24 December 1974. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminario Mayor de Bogotá, and obtained a licentiate and doctorate in moral theology from the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome.

He received priestly ordination for the metropolitan archdiocese of Bogotá on 2 December 2000. In 2003, he was incardinated in the new diocese of Engativá at the moment of its creation.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar (2001) and parish priest (2011-2013) of the Catedral San Juan Bautista de la Estrada in Engativá, parish priest of Nuestra Señora de Copacabana (2002-2005), parish priest of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Cota (2007-2011), formator of the Seminario Mayor de Bogotá and delegate for vocational animation (2017-2019), director of the San Lorenzo Seminary House in Cota (2020-2023), and parish priest of Madre de la Divina Gracia in Suba (since 2023).

Since 2019 he has been episcopal vicar of the Vicariate of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Suba.
