Today, 28 June 2025, the Holy Father Leo XIV received in audience, in the Apostolic Palace, the President of the Republic of Equatorial Guinea, His Excellency Mr. Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, who subsequently met with His Excellency Archbishop Paul Richard Gallagher, Secretary for Relations with States and International Organizations.

During the cordial talks at the Secretariat of State, the good relations between the Holy See and Equatorial Guinea were noted, and the contribution of the Catholic Church in the fields of education and healthcare, and for the human, social and cultural development of the population, was discussed.

As the conversation continued, there was also an exchange of opinions regarding the current international situation, with particular reference to the effects of conflicts and issues of public security in the countries of Central and Western Africa.
