Thanksgiving and succession of archpriest of the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major

The Holy Father has thanked His Eminence Cardinal Stanisław Ryłko for his service as archpriest of the Papal Basilica of Saint Mary Major. He is succeeded by His Eminence Cardinal Rolandas Makrickas, until now coadjutor archpriest of the aforementioned Liberian Basilica.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishops of São Salvador da Bahia, Brazil

The Holy Father has appointed the following as auxiliary bishops of the metropolitan archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia, Brazil: the Reverend Gabriel dos Santos Filho, of the clergy of the same archdiocese, vicar general and parish priest, assigning him the titular see of Altiburo; and the Reverend Gilvan Pereira Rodrigues, of the clergy of Caetité, rector of the Theology Seminary, assigning him the titular see of Tisili.

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Gabriel dos Santos Filho

Msgr. Gabriel dos Santos Filho was born on 8 November 1966 in Salvador-BA, metropolitan archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia. He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at the Seminario Central da Bahia Universidade Católica do Salvador. He obtained a licentiate in social sciences (anthropology) from the Universidade Federal da Bahia. He received priestly ordination on 18 March 1995, and was incardinated for the metropolitan archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of Nossa Senhora do Perpetuo Socorro in Salvador-BA (1995-1996); parish priest of Santíssimo Sacramento in Itaparica-BA (1996-1999); archdiocesan coordinator for Afro-Brazilian Pastoral Care (1999-2001); parish priest of São Paulo Apóstolo in Salvador-BA (1999-2006); board member of the Association of Priests of the Prado in Brazil (2004-2011); chaplain of Nossa Senhora do Rosário dos Pretos in Salvador-BA (2006-2009); parish priest of Divino Espírito Santo in Salvador-BA (2007-2008); rector of the São João Maria Vianney Archdiocesan Seminary (2008-2011); head of the Missionary Area of São João Batista in the metropolitan archdicoese of Porto Velho (2012-2015); director of studies of the João XXIII Major Seminary in the metropolitan archdiocese of Porto Velho (2013-2016); and coordinator of the Association of Priests of the Prado in Brazil (2015-2019).

He is currently head of formation of the Association of Priests of the Prado in Brazil; parish priest of Nossa Senhora da Conceição in Salvador-BA; and vicar general and moderator of the Curia of the metropolitan archdiocese of São Salvador da Bahia.

 

Curriculum vitae of Msgr. Gilvan Pereira Rodrigues

Msgr. Gilvan Pereira Rodrigues was born on 19 September 1972 in Mortugaba-BA, diocese of Caetité. He carried out his studies in philosophy at the Instituto de Filosofia Nossa Senhora das Vitórias in Vitória da Conquista-BA, and in theology at the Instituto Santo Tomás de Aquino in Belo Horizonte. He was awarded a master’s degree in social communication from the Universidade São Francisco in São Paulo-SO, a licentiate in moral theology/bioethics from the Pontifical Alphonsian Academy in Rome, and a Gradus in psychology from the Pontificia Universidade Católica de Minas Gerais in Belo Horizonte.

He received priestly ordination on 17 October 1999, and was incardinated for the diocese of Caetité.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar in Brumado-BA (1999-2006); coordinator and lecturer at the School of Theology for the laity of the diocese of Caetité (2000-2006); member of the Presbyteral Council and the College of Consultors (2002-2007); parish vicar of Santa Maria Assunta in Blera in the diocese of Viterbo, Italy (2007-2009); parish priest of Sagrado Coração de Jesus in Caculé-BA (2010-2016); diocesan pastoral coordinator (2010-2015); and diocesan administrator of the diocese of Caetité (2015-2017).

He is currently rector of the Nossa Senhora de Guadalupe Theology Seminary in Belo Horizonte-MG, and member of the Council for Holy Orders.
