Appointment of bishop of Paranaguá, Brazil
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Paulo Alves Romão, until now titular bishop of Calama and auxiliary of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, as bishop of Paranaguá, Brazil.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop Paulo Alves Romão was born on 6 April 1964 in Barra do Jacaré, diocese of Jacarezinho, in the State of Paraná.
After concluding his studies in philosophy at the João Paulo II Ecclesiastical Faculty of Philosophy in Rio de Janeiro, and in theology at the Higher Institute of Theology of the archdiocese of Rio de Janeiro, he was awarded a doctorate in pastoral theology from the Pontificia Universidade Católica do Rio de Janeiro (PUC-Rio).
He was ordained a priest on 28 June 1997 for the archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar, member of the Presbyteral Council, parish priest of Bom Pastor in the North Vicariate, professor at the São José Pontifical Catholic University and Seminary, director of the archdiocesan Department of Religious Teaching, coordinator of university pastoral care and ecclesiastical assistant of the Communion and Liberation Movement.
He was appointed titular bishop of Calama and auxiliary of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro on 7 December 2016, and received episcopal ordination on 28 January 2017.
