Erection of the diocese of Stella Maris, Dominican Republic, and appointment of the first bishop

The Holy Father has erected the diocese of Stella Maris, Dominican Republic, with territory taken from the metropolitan archdiocese of Santo Domingo, making it a suffragan of the same ecclesiastical circumscription.

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Manuel Antonio Ruíz de la Rosa, of the clergy of the metropolitan archdiocese of Santo Domingo, parish priest of Santo Domingo de Guzmán, as bishop of Stella Maris, Dominican Republic.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Manuel Antonio Ruíz de la Rosa was born on 27 August 1965 in Bayaguana, province of Monte Plata. After studying design at the Escuela Nacional de Bellas Artes, Santo Domingo, he obtained a licentiate in philosophy from the Pontificia Universidad Catolica Madre y Maestra, and in theology fom the Seminary of Santo Tomás de Aquino, and a doctorate in humanities from the Universidad de Sevilla, Spain.

He was ordained a priest on 10 July 1993, and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Santo Domingo.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San Antonio de Padua (1993), formator of the Seminary of Santo Tomás de Aquino and pastoral director of the archdiocesan clergy (1994-1996), parish priest of Santa Cecilia (1995-2005), parish priest of San Juan Bautista de las Salle (2005-2020), executive secretary of the pastoral care of life of the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate (2009), director of the San Juan Bautista de la Salle Institute (2011-2020), chargé for the connection between the executive power and the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate (2013-2014), director of the archdiocesan Radio ABC and Vida FM (2013-2020), parish priest of Santo Domingo de Guzmán (since 2020), representative of the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate at the Economic and Social Council (since 2021), executive secretary for the pastoral care of life of the Conference of the Dominican Episcopate (since 2023), and director general of Hogar vida y esperanza, Movearte and Movarte (since 2023).
