Appointment of bishop of the eparchy of Saint Vladimir-le-Grand de Paris of the Ukrainians

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Ihor Rantsya, until now protosyncellus of the eparchy of Saint Vladimir-le-Grand- de Paris of the Ukrainians, as bishop of the same eparchy.

Curriculum vitae

Kyr Ihor Rantsya was born on 8 March 1978 in Opilsko, Sheptytskyi, Lviv region. After receiving his high school diploma, he was awarded a master's degree and a doctorate in geography from the “Ivano Franko” State University in Lviv. He was a lecturer in economic and social geography at the same university.

He began his formation at the Lviv Major Seminary in 2008, studying at the Ukrainian Catholic University where he obtained a master’s degree in theology. From 2014 to 2015 he continued his studies at the Catholic University of Paris, where he was awarded a licentiate in theology of ecumenism and, in the current year, completed his doctorate. He has published several works of an ecclesiological and ecumenical nature.

He was ordained a priest on 29 March 2015 in Paris, for the archeparchy of Lviv of the Ukrainians, and was then assigned to the eparchy of Saint Volodymyr-le-Grand de Paris of the Byzantine Ukrainians. From 2016 to 2019 he was parish priest of the Byzantine parish of “All Saints” in Vincennes; from 2017 to 2019 he held the office of parish vicar at the eparchial cathedral of Paris; from 2019 to 2022 he was parish administrator of the Cathedral; and from 2019 to 2021 he directed the eparchial commission for ecumenical and interreligious relations. Since 2019 he has served as representative of the eparchy on the Pastoral Council of the Patriarchal Curia of the Ukrainian Greek-Catholic Church, and since 21 March 2022 he has held the office of protosyncellus of the eparchy.
