Cari fratelli e sorelle, buona domenica!
Considero un dono di Dio il fatto che la prima domenica del mio servizio come Vescovo di Roma sia quella del Buon Pastore, la quarta del tempo di Pasqua. In questa domenica sempre si proclama nella Messa il Vangelo di Giovanni al capitolo decimo, in cui Gesù si rivela come il Pastore vero, che conosce e ama le sue pecore e per loro dà la vita.
In questa domenica, da sessantadue anni, si celebra la Giornata Mondiale di Preghiera per le Vocazioni. E inoltre oggi Roma ospita il Giubileo delle Bande musicali e degli Spettacoli popolari. Saluto con affetto tutti questi pellegrini e li ringrazio perché con la loro musica e le loro rappresentazioni allietano la festa, la festa di Cristo Buon Pastore: sì, è Lui che guida la Chiesa con il suo Santo Spirito.
Gesù nel Vangelo afferma di conoscere le sue pecore, e che esse ascoltano la sua voce e lo seguono (cfr Gv 10,27). In effetti, come insegna il Papa San Gregorio Magno, le persone «corrispondono all’amore di chi le ama» (Omelia 14, 3-6).
Oggi, dunque, fratelli e sorelle, ho la gioia di pregare con voi e con tutto il Popolo di Dio per le vocazioni, specialmente per quelle al sacerdozio e alla vita religiosa. La Chiesa ne ha tanto bisogno! Ed è importante che i giovani e le giovani trovino, nelle nostre comunità, accoglienza, ascolto, incoraggiamento nel loro cammino vocazionale, e che possano contare su modelli credibili di dedizione generosa a Dio e ai fratelli.
Facciamo nostro l’invito che Papa Francesco ci ha lasciato nel suo Messaggio per la Giornata odierna: l’invito ad accogliere e accompagnare i giovani. E chiediamo al Padre celeste di essere gli uni per gli altri, ciascuno in base al proprio stato, pastori “secondo il suo cuore” (cfr Ger 3,15), capaci di aiutarci a vicenda a camminare nell’amore e nella verità. E ai giovani dico: “Non abbiate paura! Accettate l’invito della Chiesa e di Cristo Signore!”
La Vergine Maria, la cui vita fu tutta una risposta alla chiamata del Signore, ci accompagni sempre nella sequela di Gesù.

Je tiens pour un don de Dieu que le premier dimanche de mon service comme Évêque de Rome soit celui du Bon Pasteur, le quatrième du temps pascal. On proclame toujours en ce dimanche, lors de la messe, l’Évangile de Jean au chapitre dix, où Jésus se révèle comme le vrai Pasteur qui connaît et aime ses brebis et donne sa vie pour elles.
Ce dimanche, depuis soixante-deux ans, est célébré la Journée mondiale de prière pour les vocations. De plus, Rome accueille aujourd’hui le Jubilé des fanfares et des spectacles populaires. Je salue avec affection tous ces pèlerins et je les remercie car, par leur musique et leurs représentations, ils égayent la fête, la fête du Christ Bon Pasteur : oui, c’est Lui qui guide l’Église par son Saint-Esprit.
Jésus, dans l’Évangile, dit qu’il connaît ses brebis, et qu’elles écoutent sa voix et le suivent (cf. Jn 10, 27). Comme l’enseigne en effet le Pape saint Grégoire le Grand, les personnes « répondent à l’amour de celui qui les aime » (Homélie 14, 3-6).
Aujourd’hui, frères et sœurs, j’ai donc la joie de prier avec vous et avec tout le peuple de Dieu pour les vocations, en particulier sacerdotales et religieuses. L’Église en a tant besoin! Et il est important que les jeunes, hommes et femmes, trouvent dans nos communautés accueil, écoute, encouragement dans leur cheminement vocationnel, et qu’ils puissent compter sur des modèles crédibles de don généreux de soi à Dieu et aux frères.
Faisons nôtre l’invitation que le Pape François nous a laissée dans son Message pour cette Journée : l’invitation à accueillir et à accompagner les jeunes. Et demandons au Père céleste d’être les uns pour les autres, chacun selon son état, des pasteurs « selon son cœur » (cf. Jr 3, 15), capables de nous aider mutuellement à marcher dans l’amour et dans la vérité. Et je dis aux jeunes: n’ayez pas peur! Acceptez l’invitation de l’Église et du Christ Seigneur!
Que la Vierge Marie, dont toute la vie a été une réponse à l’appel du Seigneur, nous accompagne toujours dans la suite de Jésus.

I consider it a gift from God that the first Sunday of my service as Bishop of Rome is Good Shepherd Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Easter. On this Sunday, we always hear proclaimed at Mass a passage from the tenth chapter from the Gospel of John, where Jesus reveals himself as the true Shepherd: who knows and loves his sheep and gives his life for them.
This Sunday also marks the World Day of Prayer for Vocations, which we have celebrated for the last sixty-two years. Rome is also hosting the Jubilee of Bands and Popular Entertainment today. I greet all these pilgrims with affection and thank them because, with their music and performances, they enliven the feast of Christ the Good Shepherd: the One who guides the Church with his Holy Spirit.
In the Gospel, Jesus says that he knows his sheep and that they listen to his voice and follow him (cf. Jn 10:27). Indeed, as Pope Saint Gregory the Great teaches, people “respond to the love of those who love them” (Homily 14:3-6).
Today brothers and sisters, I therefore have the joy of praying with you and all the People of God for vocations, especially those to the priesthood and consecrated life. The Church has such a great need for them! It is important that young men and women on their vocational journey find acceptance, listening and encouragement in their communities, and that they can look up to credible models of generous dedication to God and to their brothers and sisters.
Let us take up the invitation that Pope Francis left us in his Message for today: the invitation to welcome and accompany young people. And let us ask our heavenly Father to assist us in living in service to one another, each according to his or her state of life, shepherds after his own heart (cf. Jer 3:15) capable of helping one another to walk in love and truth. And to young people, I say: “Do not be afraid! Accept the invitation of the Church and of Christ the Lord!”

En este domingo, desde hace sesenta y dos años, se celebra la Jornada Mundial de Oración por las Vocaciones. Y, además, Roma acoge hoy el Jubileo de las Bandas musicales y de los Espectáculos populares. Saludo con afecto a todos los peregrinos y les doy las gracias porque con su música y sus representaciones alegran la fiesta, la fiesta de Cristo Buen Pastor: sí, es Él quien guía a la Iglesia mediante su Espíritu Santo.

Drodzy bracia i siostry, dobrej niedzieli!
Uważam za dar Boży fakt, że pierwsza niedziela mojej posługi jako Biskupa Rzymu przypada w niedzielę Dobrego Pasterza, czwartą Niedzielę Wielkanocną. W tę niedzielę, podczas Mszy św. zawsze czytana jest Ewangelia według św. Jana, z dziesiątego rozdziału, w której Jezus objawia się jako prawdziwy Pasterz, który zna i kocha swoje owce i za nie oddaje życie.
Od sześćdziesięciu dwóch lat, obchodzimy w tę niedzielę Światowy Dzień Modlitw o Powołania. Ponadto, dzisiaj w Rzymie odbywa się Jubileusz Orkiestr Dętych i Muzyki Ludowej. Serdecznie pozdrawiam wszystkich pielgrzymów i dziękuję im, że swoją muzyką i występami uświetniają to święto, święto Chrystusa Dobrego Pasterza: tak, to On prowadzi Kościół wraz ze swoim Duchem Świętym.

أيّها الإخوة والأخوات الأعزّاء، أحد مبارك!
أرى أنّ الأحد الأوّل من خدمتي أسقفًا لروما، هو أحد الرّاعي الصّالح، والأحد الرّابع من الزّمن الفصحيّ، وأرى أنّ هذه هبة من الله لي. ففي هذا الأحد نقرأ دائمًا في القدّاس إنجيل يوحنّا، الفصل العاشر، الذي فيه كشف يسوع عن نفسه بأنّه الرّاعي الحقيقيّ، الذي يعرف خرافه ويحبّها، ويبذل حياته من أجلها.

لنجعل من دعوة البابا فرنسيس دعوتنا، التي تركها لنا في رسالته في مناسبة هذا اليوم: الدّعوة إلى استقبال الشّباب ومرافقتهم. ولنطلب من الآب السّماوي أن نكون بعضنا لبعض، كلٌّ بحسب حالته، رعاةً ”على وفقِ قلبهِ تعالى“ (راجع إرميا 3، 15)، قادرين على أن نساعد بعضنا بعضًا على السَّير في المحبّة والحقيقة.

Fratelli e sorelle,
l’immane tragedia della Seconda Guerra Mondiale, terminava 80 anni fa, l’8 maggio, dopo aver causato 60 milioni di vittime. Nell’odierno scenario drammatico di una terza guerra mondiale a pezzi, come più volte ha affermato Papa Francesco, mi rivolgo anch’io ai grandi del mondo, ripetendo l’appello sempre attuale: “Mai più la guerra!”.
Porto nel mio cuore le sofferenze dell’amato popolo ucraino. Si faccia il possibile per giungere al più presto a una pace autentica, giusta e duratura. Siano liberati tutti i prigionieri e i bambini possano tornare alle proprie famiglie.
Mi addolora profondamente quanto accade nella Striscia di Gaza. Cessi immediatamente il fuoco! Si presti soccorso umanitario alla stremata popolazione civile e siano liberati tutti gli ostaggi.
Ho accolto invece con soddisfazione l’annuncio del cessate il fuoco tra India e Pakistan, e auspico che attraverso i prossimi negoziati si possa presto giungere a un accordo durevole.
Ma quanti altri conflitti ci sono nel mondo! Affido alla Regina della pace questo accorato appello perché sia lei a presentarlo al Signore Gesù per ottenerci il miracolo della pace.
Ed ora saluto con affetto tutti voi, romani e pellegrini di vari paesi. Saluto i membri della British and Foreign Bible Society, il gruppo di medici da Granada (Spagna), i fedeli di Malta, Panama, Dallas (Texas), Valladolid, Torrelodones (Madrid), Montesilvano e Cinisi (Palermo).
Saluto i partecipanti alla manifestazione “Scegliamo la vita” e ai giovani della Fraternità Santa Maria Immacolata e San Francesco di Assisi di Reggio Emilia.

I carry in my heart the sufferings of the beloved Ukrainian people. May everything possible be done to reach an authentic, just and lasting peace, as soon as possible. Let all the prisoners be freed and the children return to their own families.
I am deeply saddened by what is happening in the Gaza Strip: may there be an immediate ceasefire! Let humanitarian aid be provided to the stricken civil population, and let all the hostages be freed.
On the other hand, I have welcomed with satisfaction the announcement of the ceasefire between India and Pakistan, and I hope that through the upcoming negotiations, a lasting accord may be reached soon.
But how many other conflicts there are in the world! I entrust this heartfelt appeal to the Queen of Peace, so that she may present it to the Lord Jesus to obtain for us the miracle of peace.
And now I affectionately greet you all, Romans and pilgrims from various countries. Osiemdziesiąt lat temu, 8 maja, zakończyła się ogromna tragedia II wojny światowej, po tym jak pochłonęła 60 milionów ofiar. W dzisiejszej dramatycznej scenerii trzeciej wojny światowej w kawałkach – jak wielokrotnie powtarzał papież Franciszek – zwracam się również ja do wielkich tego świata, powtarzając zawsze aktualne wezwanie: „Nigdy więcej wojny!”.
Noszę w sercu cierpienia ukochanego narodu ukraińskiego. Należy zrobić wszystko, co możliwe, aby jak najszybciej osiągnąć prawdziwy, sprawiedliwy i trwały pokój. Niech wszyscy więźniowie zostaną uwolnieni, a dzieci będą mogły powrócić do swoich rodzin.
Głęboko boli mnie to, co dzieje się w Strefie Gazy. Niech natychmiast nastąpi zawieszenie broni! Niech zostanie udzielona pomoc humanitarna wyczerpanej ludności cywilnej i niech zostaną uwolnieni wszyscy zakładnicy.
Z zadowoleniem, natomiast, przyjąłem ogłoszenie zawieszenia broni między Indiami a Pakistanem i mam nadzieję, że dzięki zbliżającym się negocjacjom uda się wkrótce osiągnąć trwałe porozumienie.
