Resignation and appointment of bishop of Málaga, Spain
The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Málaga, Spain, presented by Bishop Jesús Esteban Catalá Ibáñez.
The Holy Father has appointed Bishop José Antonio Satué Huerto as bishop of the diocese of Málaga, transferring him from the see of Teruel y Albarracín.
Curriculum vitae
Bishop José Antonio Satué Huerto was born in Sesa, diocese of Huesca, Spain, on 6 February 1968. He studied philosophy and theology at the Centro Regional de Estudios Teológicos de Aragón, and was awarded a licentiate in canon law from the Pontifical Gregorian University of Rome.
He was ordained a priest for the diocese of Huesca on 4 September 1993.
He has held the following offices: parish vicar of San Lorenzo in Huesca (1993-1998) and parish priest of the same (1998-2002), vicar general (2004-2009), delegate for Communications Media (2004-2015), judicial vicar (2004-2015), canon of the Cathedral (2006-2009), parish priest of Ibieca, Labata, Aguas and Lliesa (2008-2009), parish priest of Sariñena and Lastanosa (2009-2012), parish priest of Santo Domingo y San Martín, Huesca (2012-2015), member of the Presbyteral Council (2011-2015), and official of the Congregation for the Clergy (2015-2021).
On 16 July 2021 he was appointed bishop of Teruel y Albarracín, receiving episcopal ordination the following 18 September.
Within the Spanish Episcopal Conference he is a member of the Episcopal Subcommission for Migration and Human Mobility, as well as the Episcopal Commission for Social Pastoral Care and Human Promotion. Since 2023, he has been a member of the Dicastery for Bishops.
