Resignation and appointment of bishop of Belthangady of the Syro-Malabars, India

The Synod of Bishops of the Major Archiepiscopal Syro-Malabar Church has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the eparchy of Belthangady, presented by Mar Lawrence Mukkuzhy, and has elected the Reverend Fr. James Patteril, C.M.F., as bishop of the same circumscription, to which the Holy Father had given his prior assent.

Curriculum vitae

Mar James Patteril was born on 27 July in Mangalore. After his studies, he began his religious formation in the Congregation of Missionary Sons of the Immaculate Heart of Mary, giving his perpetual vows in 1988.

He carried out his studies in philosophy and theology at Saint Peter’s Pontifical Institute in Bangalore, and was ordained a priest on 26 April 1990. He was also awarded a Bachelor of Arts from Christ University in Bangalore. He was sent to Germany to continue his studies in pastoral theology at the Pastoraltheologisches Institut of the Pallottine Fathers in Friedberg.

He has held the following offices: deputy parish priest of Udane and Shirady in Belthangady, rector of the Claret Bhavan House of Formation in Kuravilangad, and bursar of the Claretian Community in Frankfurt. To date he has served as bursar of the province of Würzburg of his religious institute and head of pastoral care for the community of his sui iuris Church in Würzburg.

 

Resignation and appointment of bishop of Tepic, Mexico

The Holy Father has accepted the resignation from the pastoral care of the diocese of Tepic, Mexico, presented by Bishop Luis Artemio Flores Calzada.

The Holy Father has appointed Bishop Engelberto Polino Sánchez, until now titular bishop of Vazari Didda and auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Guadalajara, as bishop of Tepic, Mexico.

Curriculum vitae

Bishop Polino Sánchez was born on 14 March 1966 in Teuchitlán, State of Jalisco, in the metropolitan archdiocese of Guadalajara. He attended courses in social pastoral care in Santa Fé, Colombia, and carried out his studies at the IMDOSOC in Mexico City.

He was ordained a priest on 1 June 1997, and incardinated in the metropolitan archdiocese of Guadalajara.

He has held the following offices: parish vicar, parish priest, substitute dean and social pastoral

coordinator.

On 2 February 2018 he was appointed titular bishop of Vazari Didda and auxiliary of the metropolitan archdiocese of Guadalajara, receiving episcopal ordination the following 21 April.

Within the Mexican Episcopal Conference, he is chair of the Social Pastoral Commission.

 

Appointment of bishop of Adilabad of the Syro-Malabars, India

The Synod of Bishops of the Major Archiepiscopal Syro-Malabar Church has elected the Reverend Fr. Joseph Thachaparambath, C.M.I., as bishop of the eparchy of Adilabad, to which the Holy Father had given his prior assent.

Curriculum vitae

Mar Joseph Thachaparambath, C.M.I., was born on 24 February 1969 in Nalumukku, India. In 1985, after completing his studies, he entered the Congregation of the Carmelites of Mary Immaculate.

After completing his studies in philosophy and theology, at the Darsana Institute of Philosophy and the Dharmaram College of Bangalore respectively, he was ordained a priest on 4 January 1997.

He has held the following offices: priestly ministry in two parishes of the eparchy of Chanda, administrative head of the Mar Thoma Province (2002-2005, 2008-2011 and 2014-2017), at the same time working in various educational institutions in the same Province of his religious institute, and bursar of the eparchy of Adilabad (2005-2008 and 2017-2023). Since 2023 he has served as superior of the Mar Thoma Province.
