Appointment of apostolic visitator for Syro-Malankara faithful resident in Europe

The Holy Father has appointed the Reverend Kuriakose Thomas Thadathil, of the clergy of the archeparchy of Tiruvalla of the Syro-Malankars, India, as apostolic visitator for Syro-Malankara faithful resident in Europe, elevating him to the dignity of bishop and assigning him the titular see of Mariamme.

 Curriculum vitae

Msgr. Kuriakose Thomas Thadathil was born on 27 March 1962 in Kottayam. After receiving his philosophical and theological ecclesiastical formation at Saint Joseph Pontifical Seminary in Alwaye, he was awarded a Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the University of Calicut and a doctorate in liturgy from the Faculty of Oriental Ecclesiastical Sciences of the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 30 December 1987.

He has held the following offices: parish priest in various communities of the archeparchy of Tiruvalla; resident professor at Saint Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary in the archeparchy of Trivandrum; master of ceremonies of the Syro-Malankara Church (2001-2020); secretary of the Synodal Commission for the Liturgy (2005-2010); parish priest in the circumscription of origin (2010-2017); director of the Catechesis Department (2010-2013) and chancellor (2013-2017) of the archeparchy; rector of Saint Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary (2017-2020); and secretary of the Synodal Commission for Seminary Formation (2017-2020).

Since 2020, he has served as pastoral coordinator for his sui iuris Church in the United Kingdom.

 

Appointment of auxiliary bishop of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankars, India

The Synod of the Major Archiepiscopal Syro-Malankara Church has elected the Reverend John Kuttiyil, of the clergy of the same archeparchy, as auxiliary bishop of Trivandrum of the Syro-Malankars, to which the Holy Father had granted his prior assent and to whom he has assigned the titular see of Canata.

Curriculum vitae

Msgr. John Kuttiyil was born on 30 May 1982 in Kizhakketheruvu. After his formation at Saint Aloysius Minor Seminary and Saint Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary, he was awarded a doctorate in eastern canon law from the Pontifical Oriental Institute in Rome.

He was ordained a priest on 2 April 2008.

He has held the following offices: parish priest of various communities of the archeparchy of Trivandrum; personal secretary to the major archbishop; rector of the archeparchal minor seminary; rector of the Basilica of Saint Mary Queen of Peace; professor at Saint Mary’s Malankara Major Seminary; secretary of the Synodal Commission for Vocations; judge and defender of the bond at the ecclesiastical tribunal.

To date he has served as parish priest of Saint John Paul II Syro-Malankara in Nalanchira, and chancellor of the archeparchy of Trivandrum.

 

Appointment of consultors of the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims

The Holy Father has appointed the following as consultors of the Commission for Religious Relations with Muslims, within the Dicastery for Interreligious Dialogue: the Reverend Patrick McInerney, teacher of interreligious dialogue and Islam at the Catholic Institute of Sydney, Australia, and Dr. Gianluca Parolin, professor of law at the Institute for the Study of Muslim Civilizations at the Aga Khan University in London, Great Britain.
