Press Release: Vatican City State Governorate

Pope Francis supports large families and offers them economic aid.

From 1 January 2025, families with three or more children will receive a monthly bonus of 300 Euros, decided by the Pope for tenured employees of the Governorate.

The sum will be granted until the 18th year of age or until the end of the ordinary cycle of studies, subject to documentation by a certificate of enrolment issued by the upper secondary school or university, and in any case no later than the 24th year of age.

In addition, the Pope has established that parental leave would increase from the current three to five days. In effect, the three days of paid leave on the occasion of the birth of a child, also applicable to the adoptive or foster father, are extended to five.

This is a personal initiative of the Holy Father, communicated by the Pontiff himself to Cardinal Fernando Vérgez Alzaga and to Sr. Raffaella Petrini, respectively President and Secretary General of Vatican City State Governorate during the audience granted last Thursday 19 December, with the indication to proceed immediately.
