International summit on children’s rights: Cardinal Parolin welcomes world leaders
On Monday 3 February, two interventions by Pope Francis: the first at 9.00, the second, at the end, at approximately 16.00
VATICAN, 1 FEB – Sarà il segretario di Stato della Santa Sede, il cardinale Pietro Parolin, ad aprire il summit internazionale sui diritti dei bambini intitolato “Amiamoli e proteggiamoli”.
Cardinal Secretary of State Pietro Parolin will open the world summit on children’s rights, entitled “Love them and protect them”.
Tomorrow, Sunday 2 February, the official inauguration of the event will take place, with a welcome evening event in the Raphael Hall of the Vatican Museums, to be attended by Nobel laureates, world leaders, professors, writers, economists, religious and political figures, and international organizations.
On Monday 3 February the summit will take place in the Vatican Apostolic Palace, with eight focus points.
The intense day of work, organized by the Pontifical Committee for World Children’s Day, will be opened and closed by Pope Francis. He will be greeted by a delegation of children.
The first intervention is entrusted to Queen Rania Al Abdullah of Jordan; to be followed, among the fifty invitees, by the Noble Peace Prize winner of 2014 Satyarthi Kaylash; the life senator Liliana Segre; Mario Draghi, former president of the European Central Bank; Al Gore, politician and environmentalist, former vice president of the United States; Thomas Bach, president of the International Olympic Committee; the writer Edith Bruck, Ahmed Naser Al-Raisi, president of Interpol; Antonio Tajani, vice president of the Italian Council of Ministers; Máximo Torero, head economist of the FAO; Megawati Sukarnoputri, fifth president of Indonesia; Arif Husain, head economist of the World Food Programme; Miguel Benasayag, philosopher and psychoanalyst; and Paolo Gentiloni, European Commissioner for economic and monetary affairs.
They will be joined by the president of Fifa, Gianni Infantino, and the Minister for Social Development of the Republic of South Africa, Nokuzola Gladyz Tolashe, special envoy of the president Kirill Ramaphosa, president of the 2025 G20 Summit.
There will be two interventions by Pope Francis: the first at 9.00, the second, at the closing, at approximately 16.00.

The summit will be followed live by the international media, from the Vatican Media on the Vatican News portal and through the Holy See communication channels.
The signal will be available to all linked international networks, as well as on the social channels of World Children’s Day. A long live broadcast will be guaranteed on Tai1 by Tg1 from 8.30 to 10.15 on Monday 3 February, with windows throughout the entire day.
