New light for the dome of Saint Peter’s Basilica: tests on light intensity underway
The new latest-generation lighting fixtures will ensure an even more intense and well-distributed light, which will contribute to further enhance the work designed by Michelangelo and create a more striking atmosphere
VATICAN CITY, 12 MAR - Maintenance and improvement work is being carried out on the lighting systems of Saint Peter’s Basilica. The Fabric of Saint Peter is currently overhauling the lighting of Michelangelo’s dome.
The works are mainly focused on the revision of the lighting of the drum of the great dome, which is undergoing functionality and light intensity tests.
The technical operations, which are also taking place during the night hours, are essential in order to highlight the majesty of the Renaissance architecture. In fact, the new lighting fixtures, of the latest generation, will ensure an even more intense, calibrated and well-distributed light, which will further enhance the dome and create an evocative atmosphere of greater visual impact.
The project is part of a series of periodic maintenance operations that the Fabric of Saint Peter carries out to preserve and enhance the Basilica and its artistic structures.
The work will continue in the coming weeks.
