(Vatican City, 12/06/2025) On Saturday 14 June and Sunday 15 June 2025 the Jubilee of Sport will be held, the twentieth major Jubilee event of the Holy Year 2025. Thousands of athletes, both professional and amateur, coaches and managers of sporting associations will come to Rome, together with their family members, from all over the world.
It is further specified that the jubilee event will open on Saturday, 14 June with the “Villaggio dello Sport” initiative in Piazza del Popolo, from 9.30 to 18.00. The square will be animated until 16.30 by the “Sports Festival”, an event with free admission, during which children, young people and adults will be able to try out different sports, with practical demonstrations, and obtain information on the numerous sports disciplines. The festive event, with many stands, is promoted and organized by CONI, with the participation of its sports federations, associated disciplines, promotion bodies and recognized associations. A delegation of the A.S.D. “Sport in Vaticano” will also be present with its own stand.
Then, starting at 16.45, again in Piazza del Popolo, the round table entitled “Sport generates hope” will take place. The meeting will be moderated by the journalist Massimo Proietto, deputy director of Rai Sport, and the speakers will be Felipe Massa, Formula 1 driver among the most representative of Brazilian motorsports, Gordon Hayward, NBA basketball champion, Damiano Tommasi, former footballer and mayor of Verona, Pino Maddaloni, Olympic gold medallist in judo, Giulia Ghiretti, Paralympic champion, and Caterina Banti, Olympic gold medallist in sailing. They will all converse with the public.
At around 18.00, after a moment of prayer, those present will commence their pilgrimage from Piazza del Popolo to Saint Peter’s Basilica, in order to enter the Holy Door together, passing through Via del Corso, Via Tomacellli, Ponte Cavour, Piazza dei Tribunali, Piazza Pia and Via della Conciliazione.
The Jubilee of Sport will conclude on Sunday 15 June at 10.00, with the Eucharistic Celebration presided over by Pope Leo XIV, which will take place in Saint Peter’s Basilica, and not in Saint Peter’s Square as initially state, due to the high temperature forecast. Entry will be free and subject to availability of space.
