JUBILEE OF JUSTICE
(Vatican City, 18 September 2025) – On Saturday 20 September, for the first time in the history of Jubilees, a Jubilee event will be held entirely dedicated to workers for justice, or rather those who, in various ways, are involved in the world of lay, canon, and ecclesiastical justice, of Vatican City State, the Roman Curia, such as judges, public ministers, magistrates, lawyers, legal workers, administrative personnel, and their families. Over fifteen thousand people are expected to participate, from around one hundred countries around the world, and in particular, numerous delegations from Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, France, the United States, Canada, Brazil, Argentina, Mexico, Colombia, Chile, Australia, Nigeria, Peru, and the Philippines.
There will also be many institutions from all over the world, professional associations, universities, in particular the law faculties of pontifical and Catholic universities, and representative bodies, including the Ministry of Justice of the Italian Republic, the Constitutional Court, the Superior Council of the Judiciary, the Supreme Court of Cassation, the Confederation of Catholic Jurists of France, the Supreme Court of the United States, the Supreme Court of Brazil, the Supreme Court of Justice of Colombia, the Supreme Court of Spain, the Vatican Magistracy, ENAV, the Court of Auditors, the Presidency of the Italian Council of State, the International Union of Catholic Jurists and the Union of Italian Catholic Jurists, and the National Association of Magistrates (ANM).
The Jubilee event will begin on 20 September in Saint Peter's Square at 10:30, with an institutional greeting from His Excellency Monsignor Rino Fisichella, Pro-Prefect of the Dicastery for Evangelization, who will introduce the Lectio by His Excellency Bishop Juan Ignacio Arrieta, Secretary of the Dicastery for Legislative Texts, on the theme “Iustitia Imago Dei: the worker for justice, instrument of hope”. The event, which according to the programme should initially have been held in the Paul VI Hall, has been moved to Saint Peter’s Square due to the large number of registered participants. In order to enter the square, possible from 8.00, it is necessary to collect a ticket from the Jubilee Info Point, open every day from 7.00 to 19.00 in Via della Conciliazione 7, by Friday 19 September. Simultaneous translation for pilgrims will be possible via the app Vatican Vox, which can easily be downloaded (for which it is advised to obtain earphones).
Subsequently, at 12.00, again in Saint Peter’s Square, the Holy Father Leo XIV will hold the Jubilee Audience, specially addressing workers in the field of justice. All pilgrims will then be able to make their pilgrimage to the Holy Door of Saint Peter’s Papal Basilica between 13.00 and 18.00.
Also linked to the Jubilee of Justice is the event that will take place on Saturday afternoon at 17.00 in the Palazzo della Cancelleria in Rome, a conversation with the Honourable Samuel Alito, Justice of the Supreme Court of the United States, organized by the Embassy of the United States of America to the Holy See (the event will be by invitation only), and the Disputatio organized by the Embassy of France to the Holy See and the Pious Establishments of France in Rome and Loreto, chaired by Professor Patrick Valdrini, at 18.30 at Palazzo Altemps in Rome.
